Get Started On The Banjo
1. Hand Position
In this quick video we’ll look at how to hold your right and left hands when picking the banjo. Getting your hand positions correct before playing means that you can work on getting a good tone, build your speed and improve your fluidity of playing. It’s the foundation of good playing.
2. Short Rolls
It’s time to get rolling! Here we will look at how you can start adding some basic rhythm to your melody. If you hand position is correct and you follow these easy step by step directions, you’ll be playing a tune with melody and rhythm at the end of the class!
3. Chords and Drones
Once you’ve mastered short rolls, let’s turn our attention to drone notes. We’ll look at the difference between quarter notes and eighth notes and how to add drone notes as well as short rolls. We’ll also look at some basic chords that will add dynamics to the melody we’re playing.
